WEBQUEST METHOD

WEBQUEST METHOD

WebQuest is an innovative teaching method that allows for the effective use of information and
communication technologies in the teaching process. It is a digital method oriented towards the
independent acquisition of knowledge by the student, in which the main source of information with
which the student works is the Internet.

This method teaches the thoughtful and constructive use of
Internet resources. From a technical point of view, WebQuest is equivalent to instructions for the
student, which are prepared by an expert before starting the project method. These
instructions/scenarios are in the form of an HTML document and are published on the Internet. For
the WebQuest method, it is more important that the student has encyclopaedic knowledge, is able to
communicate with others, cooperate in a group, negotiate, search for information on a given topic,
select it and process it. The method focuses on the student's creative thinking and creativity.
WebQuest is an innovative teaching method that utilises the natural interest of students in

computers and the Internet, allowing them to be directed in the right direction and used in the
learning process. It teaches the thoughtful and constructive use of Internet resources. This method
activates the student, motivates creativity and inspires. Although the method itself was developed in
the mid-1990s by Tom March and Bernie Dodge of the University of San Diego, it is only slowly
making its way into the educational mainstream in Central European countries. WebQuests are more
effective in teaching than traditional methods because they contain many factors motivating
learning, e.g. through the possibility of learners taking on different roles, which increases interest in a
given topic, allows it to be explored and achieves more lasting effects in the field of knowledge
acquisition.
